I want to formally oppose the above application to retain works that were not previously
granted planning permission. My reasons are around the current use of our local hotel as an
IPAS Centre - I firmly believe that it is an unsuitable premises for this use. The Hotel is ideal
for short stays as its location is rural and remote. The grounds are isolated from the local
community of Magheracloone but were, historically, used as an amenity for the parish
(functions, weddings, bar and restaurant, accommodation etc) and was a great employer for
the area. Over the last 7-8 years it has closed itself off from the community and, also, has
isolated its current residents (asylum seekers). The hotel is also far away from the local
towns in the area (Carrickmacross and Kingscourt) with no access to services either. The
owners assured the public, when it sought planning in 2020, that it would be returned to a
commercial hotel - they have not done that and look likely to try and continue to use the
building for IPAS accommodation only. There have been a number of incidents over the last
few years that have concerned the local community - I wont go into specifics but we would
have serious concerns about the quality of care being provided to the people currently living
in the building and, granting addition rooms to accommodate more people would be a
serious safety concern for all involved.
