Dear Sir/Madam,
We refer to your correspondence regarding the above mentioned application for retention and permission for
a development at Agheeshal, Broomfield.
Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) is a Statutory Body established on the 1 st July 2010. Under section 7(1) of the Inland
Fisheries Act 2010 (No. 10 of 2010) the principal function of IFI is the protection, management and conservation
of the inland fisheries resource.
The site is located close to a tributary of the River Fane, which is valuable from a fisheries perspective as it
supports stocks of Atlantic Salmon, brown trout, European eel and lamprey among other species.
The Ecological status of the waterbody at this location, Annahale_010 is Poor and At Risk of not achieving Good
status.
IFI recommends the following regarding this application:
• The wastewater treatment system should be constructed in accordance with the Environmental
Protection Agency’s Wastewater Treatment Manual – Treatment Systems for single houses.
• On-site surface water should be treated in a sustainable manner to minimize the impact on water quality
and prevent habitat degradation at the discharge point.
• There should be no poor quality discharges from the site to the watercourse both during and following
construction.
It is important that the proposed development will not have a negative impact on the aquatic habitat and the
WFD Ecological status.
