This waterboidy has been classified as Poor WFD status 2019-2024 with an objective of Restore to Good status by 2027. Groundwater Status is Good with A WFD objective of no deterioration. Chapter 8 of the EIAR contains an assessment of the impacts of the proposed development on the Hydrological and hydrogeological environment and has proposed mitigation measures to be implemented to protect surrounding and receiving waters from any deterioration as a result of the proposed development. An outline CEMP has been included in Appendix 4-2. Section 3.1 of the outline CEMP details the pollution prevention control measures proposed. It is recommended that a site-specific CEMP is agreed with Monaghan County Council and Inland fisheries Ireland prior to commencement of development . Section 4.1 of the CEMP notes that an Environmental Manager will be appointed to monitor the implementation of the CEMP. It is recommended that the Environmental Manager provide regular updates on the implementation of the CEMP to Local Authorities and IFI. Section 2.3.2.1 of the outline CEMP provides details of the water supply for the canal . It is noted that the abstraction is “from the Finn NI as detailed and consented in the original planning consent, Department of Environment Northern Ireland, L/2011/0833/F) at a point near the proposed canal entrance at Gortnacarrow, southwest of the site boundary of the Proposed Development and that the EPA and OPW will be consulted, it is suggested that Inland Fisheries Ireland should also be consulted. Abstractions should be in accordance with the Water Environment (Abstractions and Associated Impoundments) Act 2022 and the Water Environment (Abstractions and Associated Impoundments) Regulations 2024.
