This planning application is relating to:
‘permission for development of a new slatted shed with underground slurry storage tank and all
associated site works’.
The site is located within the Rossdreenagh Stream_010 waterbody. This waterbody is currently at
Moderate Status. The site is located on an area of Moderate Ground Water Vulnerability with Poor (P)
Aquifers, Bedrock which is Generally Unproductive except for Local Zones (Pl).
A site layout plan has been submitted showing all storm lines in blue. All storm water on site will be
directed to soak pits through storm drainage pipes as shown on the site layout plan.
A water protection checklist has not been provided with this application.
The existing stock numbers supplied in Section B, Section 12 of the supplementary planning application
form for agricultural development and land (34.91 hectares) means the stocking rate is 187 Kg N/ha
which is over the 170 Kg N/Ha limit. The farmer full fertiliser plan for 2026 states that 300 tonnes of
slurry was projected to be exported on 23/04/2026. Records of this movement are needed. This brings
the stocking rate down to 128 Kg N/ha.
Section 11, Section B of the supplementary planning application form for agricultural development
states that there are 26.2 hectares available for slurry spreading, land parcel numbers for these lands
have been provided.
The information submitted with this application is not sufficient to allow a determination on the
possible impacts of the proposed development on surrounding surface and ground waters. Therefore,
it is recommended that the following additional information is requested from the applicant:
1. Please submit a fully complete water protection checklist.
2. Please provide records of slurry exports demonstrating compliance with specified limits for
nitrogen loading as required by the European Union (Good Agricultural Practice for Protection
of Waters) Regulations, 2022 as amended. This should include an N & P statement for the
farmer who is importing the slurry to ensure they have sufficient capacity to accept.
