Re: Planning Application – C. Lovett
Planning Ref: 2660232
Dear Sir/Madam,
We refer to the above mentioned application for permission to construct 1 no. poultry house, etc., at Tirfinnog,
Castleshane.
Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) is a statutory agency responsible for inland fisheries in Ireland. Under section 7(1) of
the Inland Fisheries Act 2010 (No. 10 of 2010) the principal function of IFI is the protection, management and
conservation of the inland fisheries resource.
The site is located close to the Mullamurphy Stream, which is a sub-catchment of the River Cor. The Mullamurphy
Stream contains valuable fisheries habitats and supports stocks of brown trout among other species in the lower
reaches.
The WFD Ecological status of the watercourse at this location, Mullamurphy_010, is Moderate.
IFI has the following recommendations to make regarding this application:
• The number of poultry housed shall not exceed that in the application.
• All effluent, soiled water and solid wastes shall be stored on site in adequately sized and sited watertight
structures.
• Buildings shall comply with Department of Agriculture standards and regulations.
• Mitigation measures should be put in place on site during construction works to prevent poor quality
discharge to the adjacent watercourse.
• All effluent and wash water to be disposed of by landspreading shall be carried out in accordance with the
Department of Agriculture’s booklet Good Farming Practice.
• The EPA’s Pollution Impact Potential Maps should be referred to in relation to land -spreading locations
associated with this facility. It is important that any land spreading associated with this application is strictly
controlled and ideally should be carried out in low risk areas in order to protect surface waters.
Please notify us of your full decision in due course.
Yours faithfully,
Michaela Kirrane,
Senior Fisheries Environmental Officer, IFI Dublin
