Non -Technical Summary A Visual Inspection of Existing Wastewater Treatment System was undertaken in accordance with the EPA Code of Practice: Domestic Wastewater Treatment Systems (p.e.≤10) 2021. to establish if existing wastewater treatment system is suitable for use at Feebane, Castleshane, Co. Monaghan. H18 T259. This was needed in order to progress the development at the site location and to provide adequate wastewater treatment to be discharged to groundwater. The proposed development will have a maximum design population of 6. no persons. The Environmental Protection Agency's Code of Practice 2021 states that each person produces 150 litres of water per day. This gives us a total daily usage of 900 litres at the proposed dwelling house. Results from the Visual Inspection show that the existing septic tank and percolation area are unsuitable to be used as a wastewater treatment system for the development due to no percolation area existing on site and signs the septic tank is not correctly function. Due to the results from the visual inspection Coyle Environmental are not prepared to state the existing wastewater treatment system is suitable for use. MONAGHAN CO. Monaghan. H18 1259. This was needed to progress the development at the site location and to ensure adequate wastewater treatment to be discharged to groundwater. The site is situated in an area of low groundwater vulnerability as per mapping produced from the Geological Survey of Ireland. The site has an R1 Protection Response which is acceptable subject to normal good practice (i.e. system selection, construction, operation and maintenance in accordance with EPA Code of Practice Wastewater Treatment and Disposal Systems serving Single Houses 2021). The proposed development is located in at Feebane, Castleshane, Co. Monaghan. H18 T259. The townland consists mainly of agricultural grassland, residential and agricultural buildings. There are 10 houses located within 250m of the development. Groundwater is the primary target at risk and suitable distances will have to be adhered to. Conclusion/Recommendations. Based on the visual inspection of the existing septic tank Coyle Environmental are not prepared to certify the septic tank and percolation area. This is mainly due to no percolation area been present and evidence of the septic tank does not function correctly. During the visual inspection it was found that the wastewater treatment system was not fit for the development. Coyle Environmental Recommend the following. • Decommission of existing septic tank and percolation area. • Install new wastewater treatment system as per SCA a test and report. • Ensure grey water is directed to the wastewater treatment plant. • Installation of a grease trap. • Certification of wastewater treatment system during installation. • During installation storm water should be diverted to separate soakaway not the wastewater treatment system.
