Council, 1 Dublin St., Monaghan 5/6/26 rn offett ?0 ..`` ARCHITECTURAL 26 design - for home, farm & business UNSOLICITED INFORMATION Further Information Response 26/60117 Sean & Katie McGlew - Tievaleny, Shantonagh, Castleblayney Development Description: Permission to; a) construct a two storey extension to existing dwelling house; b) alter & extend existing attached structure (formerly used as a dwelling house), for proposed use as independent living accommodation; & c) construct pitched roof over existing projection to rear, together with other alterations to existing structure. Proposal to also include new proprietary waste -water treatment system & other associated ancillary site works, Regarding documentary evidence that supports the need for independent living accommodation please see below verbatim statement (in red) as provided by applicants: I hope you convince you that we need the planning permission for the independent living accommodation is a necessity rather than a preference. Multigenerational Living We need the accommodation at Tivelaney as it will allow multi -generational living, which is normal within the farming sector across rural Monaghan and Ireland. It provides independent living for older generations, while preserving their connection to the farm and maintains a vital link to the family's agricultural legacy. The new extension will be smaller and easier to maintain. As the two generations of family living in close proximity, it maintains and strengthens the core family bond and unit. It avoids unnecessary daily travel burden if they were instead to relocate to a smaller dwelling in a nearby town at least 20 minutes away. This will be convenient for my aging parents. It avoids relocating Dad who has lived on the farm since birth and Mam who has lived there for almost 40 years, unnecessary stress and worry of relocation and their stage of life. For aging parents who have worked most of their lives on a farm, transitioning away from the countryside would cause emotional distress. In the event of an medical emergency, we would be their immediate emergency response. It will also have the provisions made that the living room can be turned into a bedroom later if required due to medical reasons. For If there is a time where additional support is needed due to sickness or other medical situations, my parents will not need to go to a respite centre, they will return to the family home where all the necessary provisions will be made. The secondary dwelling will be adopted to the changing requirements for my aging parents. They will be able to recover in the comfort of their own home with the continuous support from family, not strangers. While at home we can also monitor their recovery, prescriptions, dietary needs, and follow up medical appointments if required. Avoiding the need to access the already limited support and resources from the HSE. The hospital and nursing system is already strained, due to the growing number of our aging population, so as a family unit we intend to provide the care and support as they become more vulnerable. Succession Transition and Hardship Living at the same dwelling allows the next generation to take over the farm, the land and all the associated farming operations smoothly. A combination of all our energies will further develop the farm enterprise. Parents can provide trusted assistance during peak seasons, such as calving, lambing, harvesting and so on. We intend to start the transition after planning is approved. Sean and I intend to start taking over the dairy element of the from first as it is the most labour intensive. We know we can build on what our parents have worked so hard on. As a result of my parents busy schedules over the years we all have decided to reduce their workload over the years. Mam and Dad will remain on as flock owners on the farm. Therefore Sean and I will have the dairy enterprise and my parents will be responsible for the sheep enterprise. The yard facilities as located on the same site as the current dwelling. Sheep do be brought to the collecting yard for many reasons for example, to have a regular hoof care, sheared, weighed, dipping of all sheep against flies in summer. Daily observations and regular health checks of the sheep are crucial to maintain their welfare. Mam and Dad will need regular use of the yard. Therefore my parents will be 2 needed on site to carry out their farming duties. It would be hardship for them to live anywhere else. It would be an unnecessary travel burden to carry out numerous times on the daily. I have included a recent sheep census, as evidence of the existing flock numbers on the farm. I have also included a herd profile to demonstrate the current dairy enterprise on the farm. Family Support We would like to live as one bigger family unit as we will need additional support from each other as life's obstacles get in the way. Some of these obstacles may be a cow needing to have emergency surgery in the middle of the night, needing a veterinarian call out, my mother could supervise our children while we assisted with the surgery. As well many other spontaneous situations where the core family unit is needed. We will all be onsite and can react to the issue immediately and find a solution. Running and maintaining a farm is a constant spinning wheel with many variables and it would be so beneficial to have a knowledgeable family onsite to help with difficult decisions. They can offer invaluable realtime advice from their own experiences. A topic of great debate recently was in relation to crop management. Having family back up is hugely important to the success of the farm. We are a close family and full intend to share our schedules. Farming is made up of a busy day looking after animals. So when a person retires, a new routine is required. Sean and myself would happily share our schedules and daily routines with them, such as checking on the young stock, sheep and helping them carrying out their daily welfare checks together, if additional support is required. Friends and family will visit as they will remain on the existing site. When he is retired, he will still maintain his lifelong sense of purpose and attachment to his family home and land. I can give you an insight to my daily routine, although everyday varies, I hope to provide an understanding of farming with two older persons. I hope that I have highlighted and provided evidence to justify the need for my parents to remain at Tivelany. I have discussed multigenerational living, sickness recovery and reduced caretaking anxiety, succession transition and hardship, family support, Reduction of isolation and depression. I hope you are satisfied with the documentation that I have submitted. Thank you kindly for your time If you have any queries relating to any of the above, please do not hesitate to get in contact.
