Subject Existing above-ground bulk LPG storage vessel, base and security enclosure
Planning reference 26/60123 — Monaghan County Council

Revision / status Rev A — For information
Date 5 August 2026
Prepared by Aidan Sherlock & Associates Ltd
Basis of record Site photograph dated 16 July 2026 and published supplier / standard data
1. Purpose and Scope
This data sheet records the technical characteristics, dimensions and siting requirements of the above -ground bulk
LPG storage vessel serving Urbleshanny National School, together with its concrete base and weldmesh security
enclosure. It has been prepared to support the planning and design record for the site and to allow the installation to
be shown accurately, and with correct separation distances annotated, on site layout drawings.
The vessel is a Flogas-supplied horizontal above-ground propane vessel located within a fenced compound adjacent to
the all-weather pitch, with a covered seating shelter immediately adjoining to the east.
2. Identification of the Installed Vessel
The nominal capacity of a bulk LPG vessel cannot be determined with certainty from a photograph. However, the
proportions of the installed vessel — an overall length of approximately twice the shell diameter, a single centrally -
mounted weatherproof valve cover, and low welded saddle feet bearing directly onto a concrete pad — are consistent
with a nominal 1,410 litre (0.6 tonne propane) vessel, which is the standard size supplied for lower -consumption
commercial and light institutional heating loads.
The data in Section 3 is therefore presented for a 1,410 litre vessel as the assumed installed unit, with the adjacent
standard sizes tabulated in Section 4 for comparison. The serial number, water capacity and design pressure are
stamped on the vessel data plate beneath the valve cover, and should be read off on site or confirmed with Flogas
Ireland Ltd before the figures below are relied upon for any statutory submission.

The shaded row is the assumed installed unit. Note that separation distance increases sharply above 2,500 litres.
5. Siting and Separation Requirements
The following apply to above-ground vessels up to 2,500 litres and are measured in plan from the vessel. They are
illustrated in Figure 4.
– 3.0 m minimum to any building, site boundary, property line or fixed source of ignition.
– 3.0 m minimum to any unsealed drain, gully or opening below ground level, LPG vapour being heavier than air.
– 3.0 m minimum between the LPG vessel and any oil storage tank.
– The 3.0 m distance may be reduced to 1.5 m on one side only where an imperforate firewall of brick, concrete or
solid masonry is provided. The firewall must be higher than the vessel, must contain no openings, and the full
separation must be maintained on all remaining sides. Certain existing boundary walls may qualify where their
construction is suitable.
– 1.5 m minimum in plan to low-voltage overhead cables, and 10.0 m to high-voltage overhead cables.
– Where a screen or enclosure is provided, it must stand a minimum of 1.0 m clear of the vessel and enclose one
side only for vessels up to 2,500 litres.
– Vegetation, deciduous trees, rubbish, sheds, fencing and combustible storage must be kept outside the 3.0 m
zone. Evergreen planting may be permitted at 1.0 m on one side only.
– The delivery tanker must be able to stand within 30 m of the vessel with a clear driver line of sight to it
throughout filling. Gate access of 2.8 m minimum width and an access road of 3.0 m minimum width are
required.
6. Base, Enclosure and Signage
6.1 Base
– Level reinforced concrete slab, 100 mm minimum thickness, laid on a compacted granular sub -base and finished
to falls away from the vessel.
– Slab to extend beyond the vessel footprint on all sides and to be maintained free-draining and clear of ponding.
– Saddle feet to be bedded or bolted to the slab in accordance with the supplier’s installation instructions.
6.2 Security enclosure
– Welded mesh fence panels on galvanised or polyester powder -coated steel posts, 1,800 mm minimum height,
with a lockable access gate.
– Minimum 1.0 m clear between the enclosure and the vessel on all sides, as constructed on site. RECEIVED: 05/08/2026

– Enclosure to be free-draining, kept clear of vegetation, and used for no purpose other than the gas installation.
No combustible storage inside.
– Keys held by the school and by the gas supplier, with access controlled and recorded.
6.3 Signage
– Supplier-standard warning notice fixed to the enclosure and clearly visible on approach, carrying at minimum:
LPG BULK STORAGE COMPOUND, EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE, NO SMOKING, NO NAKED FLAMES and NO
UNAUTHORISED ACCESS.
– Emergency contact details and the supplier’s 24-hour emergency telephone number to be displayed at the
compound.
– Signage to be maintained legible and replaced when faded or damaged.

8. Verification Required
The following should be confirmed before this data sheet is relied upon for a statutory submission or for design
purposes:
– Vessel nominal capacity, serial number, year of manufacture and design pressure, read from the data plate
beneath the valve cover or obtained from Flogas Ireland Ltd.
– Date of last vessel inspection and the current inspection or revalidation interval.
– Measured separation distances from the vessel to the school building, the site boundary, the adjoining seating
shelter, the all-weather pitch enclosure and any drainage feature, taken on site.
– Confirmation that the adjoining timber-framed seating shelter and any adjacent planting satisfy the separation
and combustible-material requirements set out in Section 5.
– Tanker standing position, hose run length and driver line of sight, verified against the delivery route.
– Whether the installation was the subject of a previous grant of permission, or is exempted development, so that
it is correctly described on the site layout drawings.
9. Limitations
This data sheet has been prepared from a site photograph and from published supplier and standard data. It is not a survey,
a gas safety inspection or a certificate of compliance. No physical inspection, measurement or testing of the vessel or its
installation has been carried out. Dimensions and technical data given for the vessel are typical published figures for the
standard size assumed and may vary between manufacturers and production dates. Any works to, alteration of, or
connection to the LPG installation must be carried out only by the gas supplier or by a Registered Gas Installer.
Drawings on the following pages are diagrammatic and dimensioned in millimetres unless otherwise noted. They are not to
scale and are not for construction. RECEIVED: 05/08/2026
