We, owners of the property, on behalf of ourselves and the family who reside
in the dwelling house on our property at Annamarran, Carrickmacross, Co
Monaghan wish to lodge an objection to retention planning application
2660313 by Tully Glyde Services Ltd. The objection is in respect of the open
geomembrane lined slurry storage lagoon located and already in operation at
the company's out -holding at Annamarran, Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan
which is adjacent to our property.
The lagoon is to the rear of our property and the family who reside in the
dwelling house with their young child have encountered persistent noxious
and offensive odours from this development over the last year. As the wind
blows mainly from a south westerly direction from the lagoon towards the rear
of the dwelling house, the family are often forced to keep windows and doors
closed for long periods of time. Frequently, clothing hung outside to dry has to
be re -washed due to absorbing the heavy airborne odours. The odours do not
always resemble those of cattle slurry but are very strong and lingering. It
may be that some of the material in this lagoon is imported from other
holdings or operations. The odours attract swarms of flies as well as hooded
crows which are a serious nuisance to the family. Family members experience
headaches resulting from the odours. To be direct, the odour is affecting their
quality of life to a degree.
This lagoon is within 100m of the dwelling house which raises health and
safety concerns for us and for the family residing there. While the risk of the
young child and children of visiting family and friends who play on the grounds
of our property entering the neighbouring property on which the lagoon is
located is low, it is still a concern for the family and for us as owners of the
property.
As the entrance to the site of the lagoon is via a right-of-way on our property,
the volume of industrial -sized slurry tankers entering the laneway to the
dwelling house raises safety concerns for us and the family.
We are aware that this lagoon overflowed earlier in the year and may
have caused water pollution issues. As it is located on an out -holding, it can
remain unobserved/unmanaged for periods of time. It naturally fills with
rainwater and is a risk to the stream nearby. IViUI1. I. U. L:J.
